Colorado 2005
Death of a Legend
December 7, 2005

B&C had a Trophy Watch segment on this great ram in September 2004 titled "One Big Ram." Our thought was that perhaps someone, through Photoshop, may have embellished a little. Of course, every World's Record looks a little embellished, as no one has ever seen one quite like it.
In this case, it turns out that truth is indeed stranger than fiction. This ram was, in fact, the real deal.
This headshaker of a ram had been living near Pueblo, Colorado in an area off limits to hunting. He was 12+ years old and appears to have died of natural causes, as he was very gaunt in appearance when found.
Preliminary and unconfirmed measurements have this great ram sporting a 50" curl. Could he be a new World's Record? The current World's Record is a 208-3/8 B&C sheep taken in Alberta by Guinn Crousen.
Could he be the first bighorn ram with a 50" curl? The longest meaured bighorn on record is from a famous ram known as the Simpson Ram. This long and tight-curled sheep was taken in 1920 and has a 49-4/8" curl. It is currently on display at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City.
Whatever the answers to these pressing questions, Trophy Watch, as always, will keep you posted.
