Joel Nicholson 2010
Another Alberta First
September 29, 2010

UPDATE: Joel's bull is reported to have a green score over 380". We look forward to seeing the official score in couple months!

Another Base Suffield elk! Here's what lucky hunter Joel Nicholson has to say about it:

"Elk were first translocated onto Canadian Forces Base Suffield in February of 1997, and then again in 1998. This was done to restore a native grazer to the landscape after the removal of a large herd of feral horses that had been damaging the landscape within the military base. These elk actually came from Elk Island National Park just east of Edmonton, and the transplant was largely undertaken by the Canadian Military. This project has been very successful with excellent reproduction occurring, and animals starting to regularly roam outside the base boundary. Currently hunting is only allowed on provincial lands around the perimeter of the military base. The elk herd is currently estimated at around 3,600 head, and there are large numbers of very mature bulls due to only recent limited hunting pressure and the refuge of the military base."

Joel estimates his bull to have a gross score in the 390's.
