Steve Atlakson, MO 2006
Elk Hunting in Missouri?
September 8, 2006

Steve Atlakson saw what looked like a stick protruding up out of the mud in a small river in Missouri. He went forward to investigate and knew the second he grabbed it that it was antler instead of driftwood. After an hour of wallowing in the river, digging and scooping, he was finally able to free the rack from its confines.
Steve researched his find and found that elk went extinct in Missouri in the mid-1800s. His find is one of the only, if not THE only, fully intact specimen to come from his state.
