A good number of Club members took time from their schedules to make a trip to Washington earlier this month. On Capitol Hill, at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, and at agency headquarters around DC, they met with congressional and administration leaders and policymakers to advance the Club’s conservation policy agenda. The meetings were organized and expertly briefed by the Club’s DC team (Natural Resource Results and Watershed Results), and coincided with a strong Club presence at the annual banquet of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus and Foundation.

Meetings focused on educating officials and urging action on priority Club issues, including engagement with the hunting and conservation community, conservation funding, active forest management, and appropriations for wildlife disease mitigation on Capitol Hill. Member meetings covered the full spectrum of the policy process, from issue development to urging bill passage and enactment. Members pressed Senators to pass the Fix Our Forests Act and send it to the President’s desk, and engaged at every opportunity to find a path forward on the issue of public land disposal. Both issues are vitally important for promoting the conservation and management of wildlife habitat, and have and will require attention and effort to mature.

At the CSF event, we were proud to have two of our Regular Members take the stage, as Richard Childress received CSF’s highest honor, the Dingell-Young Sportsmen’s Legacy Award, which was presented by last year’s recipient, Johnny Morris.

Our great thanks to all Club Members who joined us this month, in Washington. We appreciate your commitment of time and resources in making the trip. Know that your support of the Club’s hunting and conservation priorities in Washington makes a difference.

We look forward to seeing many of you at our Annual Meeting in December, and in the meantime hearing from you about policy issues that will advance the Club’s agenda in Washington and around the country.

-Simon Roosevelt, Vice President of Conservation Policy
