Will there be hunting in the future?

Many of us in the Fair Chase hunting community are contemplating this question, and our discussions are sobering. Threats to our shared passion are mounting and alarming. Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) is spreading among wild deer and elk; private lands are becoming off limits to hunting or restricted to those who can afford to lease lands; increasing numbers of wildlife managers coming out of our best schools have never hunted and hunters may be just another special interest in their view; migration corridors for elk and mule deer—essential for maintaining huntable populations—are being displaced or eliminated; emotion over events that go viral in the media, such as Cecil the Lion, can turn public attitudes against hunting.

The Boone and Crockett Club is on the front lines, aggressively combating these threats.

  • We are a key driver in the CWD Alliance, and have a task group of professional members focused on CWD science and policy.
  • Our expert congressional affairs team has spearheaded legislative efforts to increase hunter access on public lands.
  • Boone and Crockett Club’s University Program is developing leaders who will help ensure our wildlife management agencies continue to value our hunting traditions.
  • We have been front and center in science and policy efforts to conserve migration corridors.
  • Our communication efforts are broadcasting messages that portray Fair Chase hunting for what it is: responsible, ethical, safe, and a valuable contribution to society, and an essential part of the American experience.

We do all of this and more to ensure that you, your children, and their children will be able to enjoy and benefit from this key part of the American experience. But to keep doing this we need your help. Won’t you please contribute so that your Club can keep working on your behalf, and continue the work our founders, Theodore Roosevelt and George Bird Grinnell began over 130 years ago. You understand how important the tradition of hunting is to future generations.
