Sitka Gear, the hunting apparel and gear company that launched in 2005 and quickly became a household name among sportsmen, is partnering with the Boone and Crockett Club on an initiative to help the hunting community rise to the challenges of a changing world.

The initiative is called "Trailblazers in Conservation."

If sporting lifestyles - and the conservation successes long funded through hunting and shooting - are to thrive in the future, then today's sportsmen must find a way to balance environmental change, increased energy development, unmitigated urban sprawl, wildlife disease outbreaks, conflicting policies and a host of other challenges.

Through Trailblazers in Conservation, Sitka Gear is backing the Club's work for better scientific wildlife management, balanced policies, hunter advocacy and broader public understanding of the applications and benefits of sustainable-use conservation.

"As a relative newcomer to the hunting industry, Sitka Gear has risen quickly through innovation, both in the uniqueness and quality of their products but also in terms of the brand representing a respect for wildlife and wild places and an the ethical approach to enjoying these resources," said Marc Mondavi, vice president of communications for Boone and Crockett. "We couldn't be more pleased to have their brand associated with our own tireless work for a better outdoors."

The vision for Sitka Gear was born on a snowy, windy, high-elevation elk hunt, with cold, wet, sweating elk hunters huddling behind a gnarled pine for comfort. Obviously, there had to be a better way. Drawing on strong backgrounds in climbing and mountaineering, the company's founders went to work bridging the gaps that existed between those endeavors and the needs of the modern hunter. The company grew quickly, and, just as quickly, began supporting the array of conservation organizations that help guarantee the future of wildlife and sporting lifestyles.

"We are extremely honored and proud to partner with the Boone and Crockett Club in their conservations efforts, particularly the Trailblazers in Conservation Program," commented Marketing Manager, David Brinker.  "The values that Sitka holds true to and base are business off of, align with the Boone and Crockett Club, so this partnership makes perfect sense."

The Boone and Crockett Club, founded by Theodore Roosevelt in 1887, has a long history in conservation. Club members were instrumental in lobbying for the 1937 Pittman-Robertson Act, which levies an excise tax on ammunition, firearms, bows and arrows as a funding mechanism for conservation.

Boone and Crockett also played a vital role in other milestone conservation measures such as the Lacey Act, federal Duck Stamp program, National Wilderness Preserve Act, Wild and Scenic Rivers Act, Farm Bills from the 1930s to now, and many others.

Sitka Gear joins Leupold & Stevens, Boyt Harness Co., Buck Knives, Swarovski Optik, Bass Pro Shops, Nosler, Hornady, Smith & Wesson, Remington, Winchester Ammunition and SIG SAUER as partners in Trailblazers in Conservation.
