Boone and Crockett Club University Programs

Educating the Next Generation of Conservation Leaders

The Boone and Crockett Club’s University Programs attracts the brightest students to top universities where they collaborate with the country's foremost wildlife faculty. The program connects students with seasoned professionals, better preparing them for the responsible and wise management of wildlife in the future. Areas of study range from wildlife science and research to conservation policy. Graduates of the University Programs have become professors at leading research universities, biologists and managers with state and federal agencies, and policymakers at the highest levels of state and federal government.

It is the mission of the Boone and Crockett Club to promote the conservation and management of wildlife, especially big game, and its habitat, to preserve and encourage hunting and to maintain the highest ethical standards of fair chase and sportsmanship in North America.

The mission of the Boone and Crockett Club University Programs is the development of a diverse community of high-impact wildlife conservation leaders.

Since creating the first endowed professorship in wildlife conservation at the University of Montana in 1993, the University Programs has established endowed chairs and fellowships at leading institutions across the country.

Boone and Crockett Fellows

Our fellows are early-career professionals mentored directly by Boone and Crockett Club-endowed professors to become future leaders in conservation policy and science. The majority of fellows are found at the graduate level, but there are some postdoctoral research fellows. A smaller cohort of high-potential undergraduates is supported, particularly through programs like the one at Texas A&M, which bridges science and public policy. Fellows receive funding and networking support in their specific field of study.

It’s quite a privilege to be associated with the Boone and Crockett Club and its mission to bolster conservation through hunters and big game management. That network has already opened doors for me as I take the next step in my career.

—University Programs Fellow Mark Bell

I am not a rich person, nor was my father, to support my studies in the U.S. The program helped me financially to complete my Ph.D, and I would like to sincerely thank them.

—University Programs Fellow Jamshid Parchizadeh
