2 of 15 — ALASKA BARREN GROUND CARIBOU

Hunting photos don’t get any better than this. With perfect light in a perfect landscape, Dan Schilling killed this spectacular barren ground caribou with his .300 Win Mag. As if it couldn’t get any better, Dan was on a self-guided solo hunt eight miles from home. Well done! 

His bull ranks fourth in the current Big Game Awards Program, which means his bull may qualify for invitation to the Club's 31st Big Game Awards event this coming summer.

3 of 15 — NEVADA BIGHORN

Finding a dead head is always exciting. But when the head is still attached to a skeleton, well that’s a little creepy. Bryce Sweitzer of Utah was hunting with a friend in Elko County, Nevada when he found this very symmetrical bighorn with less than an inch of deductions. It’s the 20th largest bighorn recorded in Nevada, according to Big Game Records LIVE. Biologists guess the ram died about a year ago, and they don’t know if a lion, old age or pneumonia took it down.

4 of 15 — OREGON ROCKY MOUNTAIN GOAT

What some hunters pursue their entire lives, Ryder Strugell went ahead and got his goat before he turned 16. After riding in on horseback with his trusty .30-338, Ryder took this goat on the second day of his hunt. And it’s a whopper. According to Big Game Records Live, his Rocky Mountain goat ranks first in Oregon, first in the 31st Big Game Awards Entry Period and sixteenth of All-time. Ryder will also be invited to the Club's Generation Next Display and Banquet, which is part of our 31st Big Game Awards Program.

5 of 15 — OREGON NON-TYPICAL AMERICAN ELK

“That day, I won the lottery. Still, more importantly, I’ll have a full freezer,” wrote Kyle Barnett as he recounted the hunt on which he killed Oregon’s number two non-typical. It was Halloween 2020, and with his .338 Win Mag, he had hiked up an uninviting canyon while his hunting partner hiked toward greener elkier looking pastures. Just goes to show that looks are almost always deceiving, especially when hunting.

6 of 15 — NUNAVUT MUSK OX

With a good 20 inches of snow on the ground, David Barbisan rode a snowmobile roughly 40 miles to and from camp to connect with this prehistoric-looking beast. In heavy overcast skies and an air temperature of 10 degrees, he shot this musk ox with his .300 WSM at just around 125 yards in the Copper River Drainage.

Barbisan's musk ox currently sits in the third spot for the 31st Big Game Awards Entry Period.

7 of 15 — SASKATCHEWAN NON-TYPICAL AMERICAN ELK

If you stare at those palmated antlers long enough, they almost take the shape of Saskatchewan, which is funny because that’s where Clayton Roberts shot this brute with his .300 Ultra Mag. According to Big Game Records LIVE, Griffin Well’s black bear ranks as the largest bear recorded in the books for the Bluegrass State. The bear was taken with his .270 in December 2017.

At a mere 50 yards, Jared Canty drew a bead on this monster and connected with his .270 Weatherby on the White Mountain Apache Reservation. White Mountain is known for big bulls and this non-typical monster is no slouch as it ranks number two in the state and number nine of All-time, according to Big Game Records LIVE. 

Unless we see an influx of several extremely large elk, Canty's bull will be invited to be part of the Club's 31st Big Game Awards Event.

Traveling all the way from Missouri for a do-it-yourself moose hunt in Alaska, Matthew Welker knew he was in for an adventure. On the second day of his hunt, Matthew killed this bull with his 7mm Remington Magnum at roughly 230 yards. 

Welker's bull is right on the cut-off mark for invitation to the Club's 31st Big Game Awards. There are less than six months left in the entry period, which closes on December 31, 2021.

Even with more than 15 points of deductions, Jayden Haslam’s typical elk comes in at number sixteen for Wyoming, according to Big Game Records LIVE. With a 6.5 Creedmoor shooting a 129-grain Hornady SST, Haslam dropped this bull in the hills outside of Dubois on public land.

On a beautifully sunny Oregon day more suited for a pick-up game of football than for hunting, Matthew Fullerton went hunting anyway. He saw this blacktail at 100 yards, took aim with his 7mm Ultra Mag and, well, here we are. Currently, Fullerton's blacktail sits in the second spot for the 31st Big Game Awards.

In early September on a sunny 70-degree day, Lacey Lupien was taking her .300 WSM for a walk when this typical bull crossed her path. She shot it at 250 yards and it ranks as the number two typical elk for Minnesota, behind the number one spot by only a few inches, according to Big Game Records LIVE.

14 of 15 — ALBERTA NON-TYPICAL AMERICAN ELK

This bull, the biggest non-typical on record for Alberta, taunted Shawn O’Shea for three years. It started in 2017 when the bull showed up on trail cameras only at night. Over the years, the bull made some appearances with no regularity. O’Shea kept after it. Then, in mid-September 2020, he heard bulls fighting and by the next evening, he set up in a ground blind. The bull appeared at 30 yards, then closed to 18 yards. O’Shea sent his arrow and put his name on the eighth largest non-typical of All-time. It also sits in the top spot for the 31st Big Game Awards Entry Period.

15 of 15 — ALASKA GRIZZLY BEAR

Somewhere along Alaska’s Unalakleet River, 80 miles of which is designated a Wild and Scenic River, Shelly Sayer and guide Lance Kronberger came across this Alaska grizzly. With a 180-grain Berger bullet from her 7 SAUM, the grizzly entered the record book. 

Her massive grizzly is currently ranked number two for this entry period, and may qualify for invitation to the Club's 31st Big Game Awards events next summer.
