1 of 10 — Oregon 1938

She may only be six years old, but Charlotte Dunsmoor Wall knows a solid Roosevelt’s elk when she sees one. This bull was taken near Astoria by her father Oliver Dunsmoor. Its score of 363-1/8 puts it at number 10 for Oregon and 32nd of all-time.

2 of 10 — Pennsylvania 1943

Claude Feathers was hunting in Blair County when he killed this beautiful typical whitetail. This buck gross scores 208-7/8, but the G-2 on the right side came in at nearly five inches shorter than the right. Even so, this is one great deer.

3 of 10 — Colorado 1955

While hunting with his dad in Sedalia County, 13-year-old Glen Neigenfind killed this cougar, which missed making the record book by 1/16 of an inch. With that smile, we don’t think it really mattered.

Stanley B. Fredenburgh Jr. traveled from New York to Turcotte Lake at 16. There, he took this great Canada moose, which scores 202-2/8 points.

5 of 10 — Montana 1973

What’s not to love about this photo? Mom’s outfit, the Jeep, the smiling kids—it’s got it all. Oh, and there is that giant typical elk that scores 362-1/8. The bull was killed somewhere around Missoula, Montana, by Merle Palmer.

6 of 10 — Alaska 1956

Near Frazer Lake on Kodiak Island, Keith Chisholm was only 11 years old when he shot this beast of an Alaskan brown bear. The bear scores 29-7/16 points.

7 of 10 — Nebraska 1962

No, this little one didn’t kill the big one, but Jack Grevson did. He was hunting with his .280 Winchester five miles east of Stanton when this non-typical whitetail found its way into the back of Grevson’s truck.

8 of 10 — Alaska 1953

The kids weren’t hunting with Ray Al Winchester when he took this barren ground caribou while hunting solo in southern Alaska. They were glad to see him when he came back, though. The rack scores 440-7/8 points.

In the fall of 1955, Gene Tinker took his lever action for a walk and connected with this Columbia blacktail near Pleasant Hill in Lane County, Oregon. The typical rack scores 139-4/8 points.

10 of 10 — Arizona 1949

Draped over a 1936 Chevy, this typical mule deer was William H. Geare’s first buck. He killed that deer with a .30-30 Winchester Model 94. It might be tough to see, but that south Kaibab deer went on to score 192-3/8.
