1 of 10 — Illinois 1960  

What is there not to love about this photo? Aside from the smile, you’ve got rubber boots, old-school camo pants, and a shirt that screams, “Don’t shoot. I’m not a deer.” Donald Vaughn killed this typcial whitetail two days before Halloween 1960 in Henderson County. The beefy buck weighed 306 pounds and scored 170 points.

2 of 10 — Arizona 1972  

This desert sheep is great, but do you ever look at people in old photos and wonder what kind of car they drive? Because it was 1972, we think that Charles Fisher put his ram, which scored 182-5/8 points, into the trunk of an old ‘49 Plymouth or maybe into the back of a ‘55 Willys Jeep.

3 of 10 — Wyoming 1946  

Imagine hunting elk in Wyoming at the headwaters of the Yellowstone River, deep in the Absaroka Range. And let’s make it 1946 when you pull the trigger on this great typical American elk. You’d be smiling as much as Texan August Jordan. 

4 of 10 — Quebec 1941  

Living the dream, Harvey Jurgensen hunted this Canada moose near Lac Gallagher, Quebec, two years after Canada entered WWII. Notice what appears to be a birch-bark moose megaphone between the antlers.  

5 of 10 — Yukon Territory 1946  

Even though the photo is blurry, you can still see the grin on Chas W. Rossi’s face as he poses with his mountain caribou taken in August 1946. Two days prior, Rossi killed a nice Canada moose in the upper White River region of Canada’s Yukon Territory. He took them both with a Winchester Model 70. 

6 of 10 — Arizona 1953 

It’s tough to tell if Dale Slocum is smiling or straining to hold up the rack of his North Kaibab non-typical mule deer. We’re going with a grin because that massive deer scored 226-4/8 points. 

7 of 10 — Alberta 1961 

This lion tipped the scales at 172 pounds, and it’s doubtful Kenny McRae weighed much more when he shot it back in 1961. With a score of 15-13/16 points, it’s not the biggest cat to come out of the province (46), but that doesn’t seem to bother Kenny.

8 of 10 — Wyoming 1947 

You would think the cowboy on the right shot that typical American elk, but you’d be wrong. That bull belongs to Mrs. Arvid F. Benson (center) who was hunting near Jackson Hole, Wyoming. 

9 of 10 — Arizona 1961 

Ralph Grossman was hunting near Gila Bend, Arizona when he took this desert sheep, which scored 186-2/8 points. Today, it takes the number 12 spot for desert bighorn and sits at 39 overall, according to Big Game Records LIVE.

10 of 10 — Yukon Territory 

Even Herb Klein’s guide Paddy Jim (right) is all smiles in this photo. Perhaps they are happy to be coming out of Yukon Territory’s Sifton Range where Klein killed this amazing Dall's sheep on August 9, 1950. The ram has an official B&C score of 174-6/8.
