MISSOULA, Mont. – The Boone and Crockett Club announced today that the organization has received a $50,000 grant from the Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s Outdoor Fund to support the Club’s policy work on key conservation issues. Working within the nation’s capital to promote policies that improve wildlife management and habitat health has been a priority of the Boone and Crockett Club since its founding in 1887. The recent signing of the Great American Outdoors Act and the release of the American Wildlife Conservation Partners’ Wildlife for the 21st Century: Volume VI report are emblematic of the Club’s leadership on conservation policy.

“The Boone and Crockett Club appreciates this financial support from our partners at the Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s Outdoor Fund to build on our critical policy efforts. The Club works hard, often behind the scenes, with policy makers as they develop the laws, regulations, and funding priorities that will ultimately impact sportsmen and women in this country,” commented Club president, Timothy C. Brady. “Our policy team is deep in the trenches on Capitol Hill and with the administration working to ensure that the interests of hunters are met when legislation or rulemaking decisions are made. These funds will allow us to continue our efforts to ensure that public policies benefit our natural resources as well as our hunting heritage.”

The Club worked tirelessly with partners in the hunting-conservation community on the recently enacted Great American Outdoors Act, which guarantees full and permanent funding of the Land and Water Conservation Fund, and ensures new funding to address deferred maintenance on public lands could also be used on national forests, wildlife refuges, and Bureau of Land Management lands. The Club hosted the meeting 20 years ago that led to the creation of the American Wildlife Conservation Partners (AWCP) and has continued to work closely with the organizations as they identify and work on priority conservation issues. Most recently, the Club helped lead the development and release of the AWCP’s Wildlife for the 21st Century: Volume VI report that outlines 10 recommendations and actions to improve wildlife conservation, habitat management, and sportsmen’s access. The Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s Outdoor Fund grant will help to support the Club’s conservation advocacy efforts in Washington, D.C., and state legislatures on issues including habitat health, wildlife health, and public access that are fundamental to its mission.

“Our customers who value their hunting opportunities owe a debt of gratitude to the Boone and Crockett Club’s work on conservation policy over more than a century. We often don’t think about the decisions that are made in Washington, D.C. and state capitals as impacting our hunting and fishing experiences, but these policies drive all of our outdoor experiences,” said Bob Ziehmer, president of the Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s Outdoor Fund. “We are pleased to continue our support of the Club’s critical advocacy work that will continue to benefit future generations of sportsmen and women.”
