About Boone and Crockett Club - Hunting and Ethics

One of the original objectives for founding the Club over 130 years ago was "to promote manly sport with the rifle." We've evolved considerably since then, but hunting is still forefront in our mission.

Surveys indicate that only about five percent of America’s population hunts. Those same surveys indicate that another five percent are against any kind of hunting. The 90 percent in the middle? They’re on the fence about it. Relatively few Americans understand that hunters are responsible for the lion’s share of funding for state wildlife management agencies. That’s by design. The Boone and Crockett Club’s founders were hunters who understood that conservation isn’t free. And they worked to create a system of conservation that is paid for by those who care about it most. 

Today, as it was a century ago, hunting is so much more than a funding mechanism. It’s a way of life. It’s how we put food on the table. It’s how we start a conversation with the one other person wearing camo standing in line at Disney World. In addition, ethical hunting, self-imposed restrictions and adhering to Fair Chase principles are points of pride for the hunting community, a tight-knit community of which Boone and Crockett members are at the forefront.
